In 1919, Arthur Betjeman opened The English Tea House, a small shop specialized in the sale of teas, in Paris. A passionate enthusiast for tea, Arthur Betjeman wished to promote, in the French capital, the tea varieties that were appreciated in London. His undertaking was such a success that he quickly reexported his teas towards England where they had an excellent reputation in the interwar years.

As his business had successfully expanded, he decided to go into partnership with Percy Barton, his general manager,and thus founded Betjeman and Barton.

In 1978, Arthur Betjemans daughter requested Didier Jumeau-Lafond to take over the company management . Born of a great family of tea merchants himself, a French recognized expert, he keeps alive and stands up for this tradition of demand and creativity.

In that way, he succeeded not only in exporting Betjeman and Barton teas as far as Japan, but also in associating with his passion other enlightened tea lovers who became Tea Merchants in turn.

Thus, there are more than twenty Betjeman and Barton shops throughout the world and each of them only exists to satisfy those who really care about the passion for tea.
